Beauty and the Beast (
Beauty and the Beast (330/500)
This is a limited edition of 500
hand-painted character cels from Walt Disney's animated classic Beauty
and the Beast (1991). This edition is one of a
series of selected limited-edition, hand-painted reproductions of
original artwork from Disney animated films.
No original production cels were
created in the making of Beauty and the Beast. Thus, Disney
artists have recreated the artwork from this feature using
traditional animation techniques. The original animation drawings
were transferred to acetate "cels" by a special six-step
xerographic process. The cels were also enhanced with hand-inked
lines. The artists then hand-painted each of the cels in the
edition with Disney-approved acrylic colors.
The background scene for this
cel has been faithfully reproduced from the original production
background, which has been conserved in the Disney Animation
Research Library. The resulting artwork has been printed on
premium-quality paper by Color Service, Inc., of Monterey Park,
California.
The edition, which was published
by Disney Art Editions in 1992, consists of a general edition of
500, numbered 1/500 to 500/500, and 25 publisher's proofs,
numbered PP1 to PP25. There are no signed cels. This recreated
cel set-up is from Sequence 18, Scene 27 of Beauty
and the Beast: Belle and the Beast sit on the
terrace in the moonlight.
