The wheel is marked as being
built by ES BURMAN Co. Chicago and includes the original steering
shaft and chain wildcat pulley of naval brass, complete with
pillow blocks and bushings. From spoke tip to spoke tip it
measures 3 ft. The last boat it was on was a tug boat of Canadian
registry built by Mercers in Vancouver BC in 1943. The tug was
named Strady 15 and the seller owned it for 10 years. During the
ownership she survived one sinking while towing in the Gulf of
Georgia and by the accounts of previous owners she had been sunk
and raised on two other occasions before he bought her. It is
perfectly sound with no breaks or damage. The back is faced with
the same cast brass face plate as you see on the front in the
picture. During his ownership of the tug it was converted to
hydraulic steering and from the picture you may notice the
adapter bushing in the hub. It is easily pressed out so the
original chain wildcat shaft will fit.
