A.J. Casson, a member of the famous Group of Seven, was Canada’s most celebrated and loved landscape artist. For over 70 years, he crisscrossed Ontario, recording its landscape, its villages and rural life in a distinctive painting style that won him international recognition and acclaim.
The year 1990 marked the 70th anniversary of the first Group of Seven exhibition at the Art Gallery of Toronto (now the Art Gallery of Ontario). To commemorate this historical anniversary, Talisman Marque Incorporated published two special “Platinum Edition” folios containing lithographic reproductions (26" x 30") of paintings by A.J. Casson.
A.J. Casson’s “Platinum Edition,” offered for sale on this site, includes seven major oil paintings in folio one and seven important watercolours in folio two. These masterworks required as many as thirty-nine hand-mixed colours, individually laid by the Bertone process of screenless colours using special inks which will not fade in sunlight. Each reproduction was produced on high-quality Mirage Vellum White 310GSM, neutral pH, Acid free, 100% rag custom-made paper stock.
All scenes are hand numbered, sealed and titled and hand initialed and approved by A.J. Casson in the lower right margin. In addition, the collection has been fully audited by the firm of P.G. Rayson & Company.
This beautiful collection with an asking price of $22,500 (Canadian) received fair market values of $33,500 and $32,650 in the summer of 1998.
